Located at the northern tip of the Las Vegas Valley, North Las Vegas is characterized by its friendly atmosphere, development opportunities, civic pride and responsive government. The City of North Las Vegas was incorporated in 1946 and is located in Clark County and surrounded by majestic mountains and desert. North Las Vegas has something for everyone including vacation, recreational, cultural and historical attractions including, of course, the Las Vegas Strip approximately 30 minutes away! North Las Vegas is a unique community to live, work and play. With two recreation centers, and 28 parks totaling 345 acres, North Las Vegas offers recreational activities for the entire family. The City has neighborhood and community parks, school/joint use parks, special areas that include a sports complex, a historical site, a golf course, a regional park, and a linear park along a desert wash, as well as two full-service recreation centers. The City's priority to provide quality recreational facilities will continue as the City grows. The Parks & Recreation Department offers programs for toddlers through seniors at the Neighborhood and Silver Mesa Recreation Centers. These activities include: pre-school, arts & crafts, sports, fitness, dance, music, and special interest classes. Also located in each facility are fitness rooms with modern equipment to help citizens improve their fitness level and strength. The beautiful Aliante Master Planned Community includes more than 400 additional acres of parks and open space, including trail systems. Located within the Aliante Community is one of two age restricted (55+) communities, Sun City Aliante in North Las Vegas offering a relaxed life-style. The other is Ardiente which is located just off the LV Beltway (I-215). North Las Vegas is also situated near recreational facilities such as Lake Mead National Recreational Area, Hoover Dam, Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, Valley of Fire State Park, Spring Mountains National Conservation Area, Toiyabe National Forest with snow skiing, hiking and camping available on Mt. Charleston, and the Las Vegas Speedway. Nellis Air Force Base is situated in the northeast corner of the Las Vegas Valley adjacent to North Las Vegas. Opened in 1941, Nellis is called the “Home of the Fighter Pilot,” serving as home for the U.S Air Force Warfare Center and nearly 9,000 residents. With five wings and more than 150 aircraft, Nellis is responsible for advanced training, tactics development and combat operations. The main base is made up of three sections totaling 11,300 acres. Additionally, there are nearly 5,000 square miles of restricted ranges while also serving as home to the famous Thunderbirds, the USAF Air Demonstration Squadron.
